Call to Action Re: 12th Annual Salt Creek Sundance
Date: 7/5/2003
From: rwaimin@earthlink.net

I have just got off the phone with Bernard Red Cherries, he will be making his way down to Indiana so that we can go and protest this event and speak to those who are corrupting our spirituality. At this time Arvol Looking Horse is drafting a letter that Mr. Red Cherries will be bringing with him to give to those putting on this event. Arvol Looking Horse has stated to Bernard that this is not a Lakota sundance and that any of the Sundance Nations should help with the stoppage of this event. We are needing as many bodies as possible to show those who are falsely running this event that our ceremonies and spirituality are not for sale. Those that are willing and able to come to Indiana and help please call or email me ASAP.

We are planning on having a strategy meeting on the 8th with Bernard Red Cherries in my home. From there we will be heading to the Hoosier National Forest to hopefully put a stop to this event.

This is a matter that needs to be addressed and I am calling on all of my AIM brothers and sisters and to all my sundance brothers and sisters to stand up and join us.
I am calling on the Native communities in Indiana, Ohio, Kentucky and in the surrounding areas to come and help us in this matter.

Oglala Sioux Tribal Member requests support

I send you greetings in a good way. My name is Joe RedCloud and I serve as Agency & Political Liaison Officer for the Oglala Sioux Tribe located on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in South Dakota.

I only returned to my home reservation about 6 years ago. Prior to that, I used to live and work in New Jersey. One of the places I worked at was a small bar in Wharton. The bar was the unofficial headquarters of several bike clubs. It is because of my experience working there that prompts me to send this inquiry to you. All of the members of the clubs I've been fortunate to come into contact with have expressed their feelings of solidarity with the American Indian situation.

Recently, some people who live in South Dakota have been making mighty efforts to build a sportsmans club very near one of the few sacred sites that are left to us. The place is called Bear Butte and it is near Sturgis, South Dakota.

I have included a copy of a news article that appeared today in the Rapid City Journal. It tells of only one side of the issue and few people are listening to our side. I ask only that you read it and tell me if your club would be willing to lend us some support in our efforts to stop the construction of this gun club.

We are not asking for monetary support. We are only asking if there are people who would be willing to add their voices to ours. If you've been to the Sturgis Rally, you may have even motored by Bear Butte. For those of us remaining of the great Plains Indian tribes, the efforts of South Dakota to build something without even consulting us is wrong.

I hope that, after you review the article, you may feel the same way. Please feel free to distribute this information in any manner you deem appropriate. Should you have any questions or concerns on this issue, please feel free to contact me. You have my e-mail address. My office number is (605) 867-5821 ext 222.

Thank you for your time and consideration in this extremely important issue.

Respectfully,
Joe RedCloud
